It's great to see hotels getting wine lists with a bit of a shine and pizzazz. There's good evidence here of that. By the glass veers into boutique producers, but well priced and of good quality. The general body of the list happily trots out Rockford, Jasper Hill, Pikes and Pieropan, showing an intent to elevate the general standard of drinking at the Vic Hotel. Victorian wineries are definitely in the cross hairs too, with a broad sweep of wine regions around the state and a handsome number of, again, boutique winemakers leading the charge here. Other Whites and Other Reds are sections where the more adventurous drinkers may home in, but this is where perhaps, correctly, the most interesting wines are found and some of the best value too. A wine list of easy drinking wines, some quiet complexity from some of the producers, and best of all a sense of choice that will give you pause as a guest of the venue.
